Black Mountain Old Fashioned

About this Cocktail

After Le Daiquiri Écossais my next offering to support the Union is the Black Mountain Old Fashioned, a drink fashioned (thank you very much) from Welsh Black Mountain apple and black currant liqueur. But this drink is more than that as it not only supports the Union with Welsh liqueur and Scottish bitters but also the Entente Cordiale given the absinthe and cognac and finally the Special Relationship with the bourbon. And in an added bonus combining absinthe with apple & black currant liqueur gives a flavour reminiscent of Black Jacks the 1980s chewy sweet (they may not be particularly 1980s but they were when I ate them).

Ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 oz Hine VSOP
  • 1 1/2 oz Bookers Bourbon
  • Several dashes Dr Adam Elmegirab's Teapot Bitters
  • 1/4 oz sugar syrup
  • 1/4 oz Black Mountain Welsh Liqueur
  • 1/4 oz absinthe
  • Orange Zest
Preparation:

Add the liqueur, absinthe, sugar syrup and bitters to a chilled glass. Drop in an ice cube and stir for a year or two. Add a shot of cognac. Stir for another year. Then a shot of bourbon. Another year gone. Then half a shot of each, another ice cube and another year or so of stirring. Finally express the zest, wipe it around the rim and tuck it in at a jaunty angle.
