Blackbird loves Fernet. We really love Fernet Valet! If you haven't tried it do yourself a favor and track some down. This low ABV beer cocktails comes out tasting like cola. The botanicals in the Fernet are brightened and lengthened by the addition of lime and beer, while the coriander syrup keeps the drink somewhere in between savory and mysterious.
1oz Fernet Valet
.5oz Coriander syrup (see below)
.5oz fresh lime juice
Top with the Champagne of Beers
Hand over the bottle too
Combine ingredients in a shaker - add ice - shake and strain into tall Collins glass with fresh ice - top with beer.
To make coriander syrup take 2 cups boiling water. Steep 3 table spoons ground coriander seeds for ten minutes. Strain out coriander. Combine 2 cups raw or Demerara sugar. Dissolve sugar by stirring or shaking syrup untill fully incorporated. We also like to sprinkle in a pinch or two of salt. It makes everything taste better and helps bring out nuances in the Fernet.
