About this Cocktail

This is the Dutch Kills (Long Island City, Queens) version of a Fourth Regiment. I want to thank these amazing folks for sharing the recipe with me.

Their version subs the celery bitters for a celery shrub thereby giving the drink more depth and savory quality. It also has more modern ratios for the rye and vermouth.

  • 2.25 oz Rye (George Dickel)
  • 0.5 oz Sweet Vermouth (M&R)
  • Two dashes of *celery shrub
  • Two dashes of Regans' Orange Bitters
  • Two dashes of Angostura

Combine ingredients in tin and stir with cracked ice. Strain into coupe. Express orange peel and use as garnish.

*Celery Shrub: for my shrub I used Celery, a small amount of fresh ginger, honey and apple cider vinegar. It's been brewing for approximately 1.5 weeks which is just enough time for the vinegar to mellow out. Have fun shrubbing!
