About this Cocktail

My very first original cocktail. I wanted to make a drink that used grapefruit flavors and Bonal. I've been a huge fan of that flavor combination since trying the drink "First We Take Manhattan" that Brandon posted here on BarNotes. Brandon's description of that drink says,"the grapefruit peel goes superbly with the Bonal (hat tip Neal Bodenheimer)." That's where the name comes from. Thanks Neal (and Brandon)! If you like this drink, make sure to try First We Take Manhattan as I'm sure you'll enjoy that one as well.

  • 1.5 oz Willett Rye
  • 1.0 oz Bonal Gentiane-Quina
  • 0.5 oz Grapefruit juice
  • 0.5 oz Amaro Nonino
  • Dash Bitterman's Hopped Grapefruit Bitters
  • Grapefruit peel for garnish

Combine all liquid ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake thoroughly and strain into a chilled coupe. Express grapefruit peel, rub rim and drop into drink. Cheers!
