Kid Galahad

About this Cocktail

The inspiration for this drink is Mr. Presley’s 1962 film of the same name. Its about an amateur boxer in Upstate New York who happens to sing like Elvis. Toronto is north of NYC (about as close to Upstate as I was going to get), so I started with that drink as an inspiration. Considering the name of the movie has “Kid” in it, I added the Root Beer component as well. I consider the Fernet Branca and The Absinthe to represent the right and left hook of the boxer.

  • 2 oz Bourbon
  • .75 oz Root (Art In The Age)
  • .25 oz Fernet Branca
  • .25 oz Rock Candy Syrup
  • Absinthe
  • Orange Peel

I build this one in the glass. Start by chilling the glass with a big chunk of ice and giving it a solid Absinthe rinse. If you’re using good Absinthe, no need to discard the left over. Add the rock candy syrup next, then the rest of the ingredients. Get that bad boy dizzy with your bar spoon. Flame the orange peel and give the top an extra mist of Absinthe.
