About this Cocktail

Had a hankering for this and thought I would give it a try. I found a couple of recipes online and combined them.

  • 1oz light rum
  • 0.5oz dark rum
  • 0.5oz 151-proof rum
  • 0.5oz orange Curaçao
  • 0.5oz almond syrup
  • 0.5oz simple syrup
  • 0.5oz freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 4oz freshly squeezed orange juice

Combine ingredients except orange juice in a stirring glass half filled with ice. Stir for 30 seconds and pour into hurricane or Collins glass and top with orange juice. Garnish with orange slice, lime wedge and maraschino cherry.

For almond syrup, you can either buy or make your own:
2 cups raw almonds
1 1/2 cup sugar
1 1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp orange flower water
1 oz vodka

Toast almonds at 400F for 4 min, shaking after 2 min.
Cool almonds then pulverize in food processor.
In saucepan, cook sugar & water on medium heat until sugar dissolves and water starts to boil (about 3 min), stirring constantly.
Add pulverized almonds and simmer on low heat, stirring frequently. When mixture is about to boil, remove from heat and cover. Let sit for 3 to 12 hours.
Strain steeped mixture through 3 layers of cheesecloth, squeezing cloth as you go.
Add orange flower water and vodka, then stir. Funnel into glass jar or bottle.
Makes approximately 1 1/4 cups.
