About this Cocktail

The classic. I like mine a little less sweet, and with an orange twist rather than a cherry.

  • 2 oz rye whiskey
  • 3/4 oz sweet vermouth (I like Dolin rouge for manhattans)
  • 2-3 dashes angostura bitters
  • Orange peel

Combine ingredients in a mixing glass, add ice, stir, and strain into a coupe. Hit it with the orange peel (or add brandied cherries, if you prefer).

I go for a 5:2 ratio, so 2.5 oz rye (Bulleit is the house rye) to 1 oz vermouth. I also squeeze the orange peel into the glass before adding the mixture. One more thing, don't skimp on the vermouth. Get a decent brand like Dolin.
