About this Cocktail

A twist on the 1920s creation for the movie star and wife of Douglas Fairbanks by Fred Kaufman of the Hotel Nacîonal de Cuba. I like the original but wouldn't want more than one. The shot and a half of pineapple juice can be a little cloying particular if using boxed juice as I was. So in an attempt to freshen the drink slightly I have switched that for one shot of apple juice which is cleaner to my mind and half a shot of some citrus shrub with its sweet-sour balance. The rest of the drink remains as per the original. Oh except I have used an anejo rum to add depth and sweetness.

Ingredients:
  • 2 shots anejo rum (I used Santa Teresa from Venezuela)
  • 1 shot pressed apple juice
  • 1/2 shot three citrus shrub
  • 1/4 shot grenadine (homemade)
  • 1/8 shot maraschino liqueur
Preparation:

Shake hard and strain. Garnish with a maraschino cherry.
