We go down to Kentucky quite a bit and each time they release a new masters collection at Woodford reserve we make the trip down. Normally I just have it on the rocks since they are great by themselves but occasionally I'll splurge and make a Masters Old fashioned. This is one of my favorite cocktails and any quality bourbon/whiskey can be substituted.
2 oz Woodford Reserve Masters Collection 1838 style white corn
1 fire and smoke Vena's bittersweet sugar cubes
Dash of Old Fashioned bitters
Orange peel for garnish
Fresh cut, clear ice cube (Neat Ice is great)
Muddle the sugar cube, bitters, and Orange peel in a mixing glass. Then add the bourbon and few large ice cubes. Stir for at least 50 stirs. Pour and strain over a fresh cut, clear ice cube. Rim the old fashioned glass with the orange oils and drop it in the drink for garnish. Enjoy!
