Spring in Oregon brings my backyard mint patch to life and local Rainier cherries to fruit. Combined with a fine Bourbon and a splash of Campari makes for a wonderfully cherry sweet-bitter Julep. Developed for a JulepFest home bartender contest (it won).
2.5 oz quality bourbon
.5 oz Campari
.5 oz Rainier cherry simple
6-8 mint leaves
2 Rainier cherries, pitted
Mint sprig garnish
Gently muddle mint with cherries and syrup.
Add bourbon and Campari and stir gently to combine.
Double strain into crushed ice packed Julep cup.
Add more crushed ice to overfill cup.
Garnish with mint sprig and Rainier cherry.
Drink and repeat
