A variation on the Manhattan, the Rosalind Russell is a treat. Slightly sweeter and with a touch of anis, its found in Lucius Beebe's Stork Club Bar Book.
The Stork Club Bar Book smartly (in perhaps in a dated way) organizes drinks into three categories: morning, noon and night. Mid morning being the "first well-established masculine cocktail hour". But why the Manhattan and its variations are found under the Morning section is unclear save the note that "the A.M. elbow bender is a Maverick".
2/3 jigger [Danish Alborg] Aquavit (Norwegian Linie Aquavit used here)
1/3 jigger vermouth or dubonnet (Carpano vermouth here)
"Spoon" (i.e. stir) and serve in the same manner as a Martini (i.e. in a cocktail glass--but here with a cherry ala a Manhattan rather than an olive).
