Rye or Reason

About this Cocktail

A regular asked for "something summer-y tasting and whiskey based" so this is what I whipped up. Not terribly original (trumped up, no egg-white whiskey sour? Well yeah, kinda.) But the various flavors all play really well together here, and it makes for a great sipper out on the patio on a summer night.

Ingredients:
  • 2 oz rye whiskey
  • .25 oz Cointreau
  • .75 oz fresh squeezed lemon juice
  • .5 oz Demerara syrup (2:1)
  • .5 oz reduced raspberry simple syrup
  • Dash Regan's Orange Bitters
  • Ten-ish mint leaves
Preparation:

Lightly muddle mint, Demerara and raspberry syrups. Add all remaining ingredients, lots of ice, and shake. Hard. Like, harder than you would a Polaroid picture. Double strain into 9 oz. glass filled with fresh ice. Find a handsome mint sprig and give it a good slap before garnishing. Serve.
