This "grown up" version of a Tequila Sunrise happened as a result of a MxMo challenge to update our Drink of Shame. That drink being something we loved when we were young but would never ever order or make now.
Unlike the cloyingly sweet Tequila Sunrise, Santa Monica Sunrise is totally delicious and I would totally drink a million of these.
2 oz Blanco Tequila
1/2 oz Cointreau
approx 1/2 oz Campari
2 oz Red Grapefruit Juice
2 dashes Regans' Orange Bitters
Garnish: Grapefruit Peel
Combine Tequila, Cointreau and Grapefruit juice and stir until ingredients have mixed properly. Double strain into Double Rocks glass with Cracked, Crushed or Pebble ice. Carefully pour Campari down the side of the glass so it doesn't mix with the other ingredients and creates a layer on the bottom. Garnish with Grapefruit peel.
