About this Cocktail

Credit for this one goes to my old Rum Club compadre Dave Shenaut in Portland. No one knows how to pronounce its name -- maybe not even Dave. Hard to say, but easy to pound.

Ingredients:
  • 3/4 oz rye
  • 3/4 oz Campari
  • 3/4 oz fresh lime
  • 3/4 oz sweet vermouth
  • Ginger beer
  • Lime wedge or wheel
Preparation:

Shake first four ingredients until chilled, double-strain over fresh ice in a Collins glass or something similar. Top with ginger beer, give it a quick stir, and garnish with a lime wedge or wheel.

You got a preference on the rye here? I have the Wild Turkey, Rittenhouse, and Sazerac handy. Well technically Michter's too but I save that for savorin'.
  • Dan Stone
Of those, I'd go with rittenhouse, but any of the three would work.

I'm drinking one now and it's delicious. Goes wonderfully with grilled duck hearts...

    Second that.

Recreated this w/out access to limes. Switched to a blend of fresh satsuma and lemon juice instead and it was still excellent.

Any suggestions on how much ginger beer to add?
  • Dan Stone
I usually make it in a Collins glass and top it with GB. Probably 2-3 ounces.

Drink of the day for Kentucky Derby. Ended up going a little heavier on the bourbon. Made with Rittenhouse and Punt a mes

Like it with Bullitt rye. However my wife doesn't care for ginger beer but loves this with Canada Dry 10 ginger ale.
