Although I am a poet, I had to steal this title from Fred Exley's 1968 novel A Fan's Notes. It's a "fictional memoir" - as Exley labeled it - about an alcoholic, bi-polar (or something like that), obsessive New York Giants fan. An American classic that crushes Gatsby.
Gaz Regan, after downing one of these, commented that "it's a high-octane baby, too. Just like I like 'em!"
2 oz. gin (Tanqueray, Beefeater, and Plymouth all work)
1 oz. fresh lemon juice
3/4 oz. Luxardo Bitter
1/2 ounce simple
14 drops Fee Brothers Old Fashioned Bitters
14 drops Fee Brothers Grapefruit Bitters
Garnish with a grapefruit twist
Combine all, shake, and strain over ice. Bang it with the peel.
