Had this on a recent visit to the French 75 Bar associated with Arnaud's restaurant. It's a creation from the well known and well respected Chris Hannah. It's a great mix of spice that wards off the occasional bitter cold we get once a decade here in New Orleans. Since it was too dark to get a good shot of the cocktail, I found this winner with Chris "Crystal Pepsi" Hannah on the left.
2 ounces rye
.5 ounce Averna
.25 ounce St. Elizabeth Allspice Dram
2 dashes Dale DeGroff's Allspice Bitters
Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker over ice and shake laconically (or vigorously) until chilled.
Strain into a chilled coupe or cocktail glass and garnish with a star anise.
