This may be my new favorite holiday cocktail for this year. This is the original recipe from Alex Mennie using whisky, but next time, methinks scotch or rye might be in place of the Jack Daniels. Not as pretty as some of the other holiday drinks, but it’s a delight for the sour drinkers out there with the added touch of Velvet Falernum.
2 oz Jack Daniels (or Scotch or Rye)
1/2 oz Freshly Squeezed Lemon Juice
1/2 oz Cranberry Juice
1/2 oz Velvet Falernum
2 dashes of Fee Brothers Aztec Chocolate Bitters)
One Egg White
Orange Peel Garnish
Combine all ingredients save the orange peel into a cocktail shaker and dry shake for 30 seconds.
Carefully open the tin and add ice and shake again for 20+ seconds until well chilled.
Pour and double strain contents over a chilled rocks glass over fresh ice (I prefer a single large cube or sphere) and garnish with an orange peel.
