Take all ingredients and stir with ice in a mixing glass and strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with a flamed orange peel
I like to use a high proof bourbon so the alcohol better extracts oils and flavors from the other ingredients
Throw a star anise, a cinnamon stick, a clove or two, an allspice berry and zest one orange with a zester over a mason jar and fill it with bourbon. I use Wild Turkey 101. Give it a taste from time to time ( as soon as even a day or two ) and use it when it has acquired the flavor you desire. Remember to strain it into another container if you want to vault the process otherwise the spiced ingredients will become more potent in the mixture.
