Dark and Stormy

About this Cocktail

To state the obvious, there is something about this drink that just works. The true classic doesn't include lime, but here in the U.S. we have made that an expected addition. Meant to be enjoyed on a 90 plus degree day when the humidity is just high enough to keep a permanent shvitz on.

  • 2 oz. Gosling's Black Seal Rum
  • 3 oz. Reed's Ginger Beer
  • .5 oz. fresh lime juice

Combine the ginger beer and lime juice in a tall glass over ice. Slowly top with the Gosling's and garnish with a lime wedge.

Obvious Note: While you don't need Gosling's or this drink the rum has gotta be, in the words of David Wondrich "dark and funky".

I prefer the equally tasty Moscow Mule. Same drink with vodka substitute
  • Walt Falconer
Excellent drink. I add a couple of drops of bitter. I have tried it with the lime, I will have to give it a go.

It's the classic summer patio relaxer. Easy & tasty. Something satisfying about squeezing the lime into the dark rum. Doesn't need expensive rum - ginger beer makes it.

Check out the Dark and Stormy Plus we've been running all summer at our bar in Montauk!

I absolutely love this drink. I just found my summer beverage. I used Myers original dark and Reeds ginger beer.
  • Khary Shirley
Reeds is the worst tasting Ginger Beer. It has way too much honey. I prefer Q or Fever Tree!
  • Jeff Hebb
This is my favorite drink , being from the maritimes of Canada. Fever tree ginger beer, half a lime, Zaya rum, and generous on the ice...bottoms up!
