About this Cocktail

Although I am a poet, I had to steal this title from Fred Exley's 1968 novel A Fan's Notes. It's a "fictional memoir" - as Exley labeled it - about an alcoholic, bi-polar (or something like that), obsessive New York Giants fan. An American classic that crushes Gatsby.
Gaz Regan, after downing one of these, commented that "it's a high-octane baby, too. Just like I like 'em!"

  • 2 oz. gin (Tanqueray, Beefeater, and Plymouth all work)
  • 1 oz. fresh lemon juice
  • 3/4 oz. Luxardo Bitter
  • 1/2 ounce simple
  • 14 drops Fee Brothers Old Fashioned Bitters
  • 14 drops Fee Brothers Grapefruit Bitters
  • Garnish with a grapefruit twist

Combine all, shake, and strain over ice. Bang it with the peel.

  • Kevin O'Mara
    Perpetual favorite of mine.
  • Evan Judge
I had this for the first time last night, and it was incredible.
