About this Cocktail

Whilst in Nashville, I picked up some very delicious Bourbon Smoked Sea Salt by Bourbon Barrel Foods. This salt goes very well in a Maple Old Fashioned!

  • 2 oz Bourbon or Rye
  • 1/2 oz Maple Liqueur
  • 1 *Barspoon Brown Sugar or Demerara Sugar (I'd go with Brown Sugar)
  • 2 dashes of Black Walnut Bitters
  • Pinch of Bourbon Smoked Sea Salt
  • Orange Peel
  • Maraschino Cherry

Build in Glass:
-Add Sugar, Bitters and Maple Liqueur to glass and stir until sugar is nearly dissolved.
-Then add Bourbon or Rye and stir again.
-Add Cherry, Ice, express Orange Peel and garnish.
-Finally, add a pinch of Salt on top.

*If you find this to be too sweet, reduce the amount of sugar added to drink.

  • Dani DeLuna
Linda, I think any sort of smoked sea salt would be great unless it was something too savory... like salmon smoked sea salt. haha
  • Tom Lyberg
Absolutely brilliant. I use the bourbon smoked sea salt for cooking but it is great in this. More experiments to come?
  • Nick Riley
Dani do you know if this is only available in the U.S.?
  • Dani DeLuna
Nick, I'm honestly not sure. Their website is bourbonbarrelfoods.com. Maybe try Amazon?
  • Nick Riley
Ouch, $9 for the salt, $81 for the shipping :(
  • Dani DeLuna
Nick, holy cow. Most expensive Salt ever.
  • Nick Riley
Would it be cheaper to have it sent to you & for you to send it on? ;) we could set up a small cross Atlantic trade company. I can send you all the Havana rum money can buy! (Although I imagine, thanks to Obama, you'll be able to buy that in the states soon?)
